First Impressions - Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
I wanted to share my first impressions of this cream because I have heard so much about it and was really eager to try it. I have used it alone (with no other foundation or powder over top) maybe four times so far. I have used it under foundation probably only twice.
This BB cream goes on really smooth, it is quite liquidy, which did surprise me because many of the other BB creams that I have used have a thick consistency. I do like the consistency of this BB cream and I feel like it smooths onto the skin really easily, it feels almost like a thin, serum like moisturiser.
I purchased the shade Light, I was expecting slightly more coverage. I know it's a BB cream and not a foundation, but other BB creams I have tried do offer some coverage (especially on the redness in my cheeks.) This one offered very little coverage. I was concerned that the Light shade may have been too light for me and may have left me a little washed out, but I couldn't notice any difference in the tone of my skin.
Looking on the Maybelline website, it states that this BB cream is an 8-in-1 Skin Perfector, offering a fresh, lightweight feel, it blurs imperfections, enhances, brightens, hydrates all day, visibly smoothes skin, adjusts to skin tone and is oil free, non-greasy.
I would agree that this does offer a lightweight feel, the consistency is nice and doesn't feel heavy on the skin.
To an extent, blurring imperfections is correct in that I feel like the pores around my nose/cheeks were less visible, though it definitely did nothing for any redness or blemishes.
I don't really think that this enhanced my skin in any way while I was wearing it, apart from the look of pores. After wearing it, I do feel like it was quite moisturising though and left my skin feeling quite soft.
I don't think it had any brightening effect other than making my skin look shiny, like I had oily skin that needed blotting (which is quite unusual as I have quite dry skin!)
I will agree that this feels hydrating, my skin felt smooth and supple all day I don't know if it was visibly smoother, but it did feel like it was moisturised.
I supposed I agree that it adjusts to your skin tone because it honestly offered no visible change to the tone of my skin. I didn't feel like it was something that offered any type of coverage.
Considering this states that it is oil free, I found that my skin has looked shiny all day every time I have used this. It is unusual for me to feel self conscious about my skin being shiny because I have always had dry skin. I don't feel like this left my skin feeling greasy in anyway, I just feel like it had way too much shine to wear alone.
Wearing this under foundation I really haven't noticed any difference than how my make up would normally wear. I think that because the BB cream is so lightweight, it does sink into the skin quite nicely and is a nice moisturiser under foundation because it is non-greasy. I don't feel like the shine that bothered me while wearing this alone is as evident when you wear foundation/powders over the top.
My final thoughts on this are basically that it is a nice moisturiser which does have some small benefit in smoothing out the look of pores. It is a very thin liquid that soaks into the skin nicely and it really does leave the skin feeling hydrated and soft.
I would wear this alone as a moisturiser on the weekends or days when I'm not at work becasue I really felt like I got absolutely no coverage out of it and it ended up looking really shiny for the whole day.
I do like it under foundation and I think that it offers a nice base for foundation because it does feel so hydrating.
I would be careful wearing this by itself if you do have oily skin just because of the amount of shine that I ended up with on my dry skin. It is non-greasy, so I think that it would be fine for those with an oily skin to wear under foundation, but wearing it alone may leave you looking even shinier.
I was surprised by how hydrating this is. I definitely think it is a nice moisturiser, I'm just not sure if it offered a lot of other benefits on my skin.
It has a really strange smell too, it kind of reminds me of cucumbers and play-doh. It really is an odd smell that I'm really not a fan of.
I will probably use this up, even if it's just for the way it makes my skin feel. However, I would say that it's no better or worse than a good moisturiser. At this stage I probably wouldn't repurchase it, though I would be interested to see if the Medium shade offered any differing results.
This is just my opinion and the way that my skin reacted to this BB cream. If you have used it, let me know what you thought of it!!!
